Chichester Harbour House | Downstairs WC

A small space that packs a punch.

Small modern bathroom with beige wallpaper featuring blue palm leaves and brown branches, blue beadboard wainscoting, a white vanity with a textured gray cabinet, a rectangular sink, a sleek chrome faucet, a mirror, a towel radiator with a leopard print towel, and part of a toilet visible.

The Starting Point

A downstairs toilet is the perfect opportunity to go bold and this room was no exception.

I transformed a dated, bland room into a contemporary, fun and cocooning space. The clients enjoy hosting and this little room with big personality sets the scene when guests are welcomed into the home.

Key priorities included:

  • Improving function

  • Creating a bold and fun space

  • Modernisation

The Transformation

A small bathroom with a toilet, a sink, and cleaning supplies, with framed artwork hanging on the walls and beige tiled flooring.
A bathroom with a modern white toilet, a dark teal wainscot, patterned wallpaper with blue pine branches, a toilet paper stand with floral design, and a leopard print towel hanging on a white towel rack.

This room required a complete renovation and was stripped out before starting. Floor and wall tiles, toilet, sink and the radiator were all removed. The plumbing for the toilet, sink and electrics remained in the same position; however, the radiator was moved for improved spatial layout.

The installation included new sanitary ware, floor tiles, half height reeded panelling, wallpaper and a more functional heated towel radiator.

A bathroom with tropical wallpaper featuring green palm leaves and beige branches, a mirror, a white vanity sink with a modern chrome faucet, a radiator with a leopard-print towel, and a portion of a toilet.

The Transformation

I added a modern back-to-wall toilet, a small sink vanity with storage and a heated towel radiator to improve function.

A beautiful, bold wallpaper was wrapped across the walls and ceiling to help disguise the sloped surface and to create a seamless look, resulting in a very cocooning feel. On the bottom half of the walls, narrow reeded panelling painted in an uplifting teal adds texture and movement, complementing the paper and the modern fittings.

Further pattern and texture was brought in through the hexagonal floor tiles which feature golden and brown veins, mirroring the motifs within the wallpaper.

Small details such as the parrot light pull and toilet roll holder add fun and personality to the scheme.
